Depending on how long you press the button, you can play/pause music and access preset playlists. You need to download the Boom app on your iOS or Android device to set up these one-touch playlists. This app will let you access a few different preset EQ settings as well.
Comment ça sonne ?
It is worth mentioning that this speaker gets extremely loud. And the sound quality is pretty impressive no matter how high you turn it up. It is one of the loudest waterproof speakers we reviewed.
Avantages
- Has an IP67 rating against water and dust.
- You can listen to your favorite playlists at the push of a button.
- Bluetooth range of 150 feet.
Inconvénients
- You cannot use it for hands-free calling.
3
JBL Charge 4 – Most Versatile Waterproof Speaker
With a playback time of up to 20 hours, the JBL Charge 4 is one of the best battery life waterproof speakers on the market. JBL has stuck a sizable 7,500mAH battery into the Charge 4 to make this possible.
As a result, the Charge 4 is a bit chunkier than some of the other waterproof speakers we have looked at. It weighs in at just over two pounds and measures 8.66-inches long by 3.74-inches in diameter.
A good amount of volume…
JBL has housed a single 1.9-inch by 3.5-inch speaker driver into the Charge 4. It is accompanied by side-firing radiators on each end to help produce additional bass as well. This leaves the speaker producing a mono sound. It gets plenty loud enough, but it does not have an immersive spatial sound like other speakers do at the same price.
Like with other JBL speakers, the volume, pairing, power, and playback control are found on the top of Charge 4. This is also another JBL speaker that uses Bluetooth 4.2 and supports Connect+, allowing you to connect the Charge 4 to other JBL speakers.
USB-C…
Thanks to the large internal battery, this speaker can also act as a charger for your other smart devices. You will find a USB-C port next to the 3.55mm jack located under the flap on the speaker’s base.
A USB-C cable comes included, but you will need to supply your own adapter. This was a bit unexpected, considering the high price point of this speaker.
Avantages
- The battery lasts for up to 20 hours.
- Features a USB-C charging port.
- The speaker can be used to charge your phone.
Inconvénients
- Bigger and heavier than most other waterproof speakers.
4
Ultimate Ears WONDERBOOM 2 – Best Portable Waterproof Speaker
Some of the Best Waterproof Speakers are so small they can be clipped on to your backpack. The WONDERBOOM 2 from Ultimate Ears is about the same size as a softball is. Like other Ultimate Ears speakers, it can output 360 degrees of sound. It measures a tad over 4-inches high and has a diameter of 3.25-inches.
Ready to roam…
The WONDERBOOM 2 is also one of the best lightweight waterproof speakers , coming in at just under a pound. It is so lightweight that you can just use the integrated hang loop to clip it to your bag and take it with you.
Integrated into this tiny speaker are two 40mm drivers and two passive radiators. It also has a lithium-ion battery that allows for up to 13 hours of playback time.
Outdoor mode…
Since you will most likely be using this speaker outdoors, Ultimate Ears has given it a special Outdoor Mode setting. This small speaker is already exceptionally loud given its small size, but by turning on Outdoor Mode, it boosts sound output even further!
With Outdoor Mode on, you can hear this speaker easily from almost one hundred feet away. However, you will notice that the bass is not quite as pronounced at louder volumes. Still, one of the most powerful waterproof speakers we have reviewed.
Connect with friends and go for a swim…
You can even connect two WONDERBOOM 2s wirelessly together to provide stereo sound. Just like the Boom 3 we looked at earlier, playback controls are large and easy to use. Furthermore, it is dustproof and has an IP67 water rating as well. Which means you can toss it straight into the pool.
Avantages
- Outdoor Mode for increased volume.
- The integrated carry hoop allows you to attach it to your bag.
- You can pair multiple WONDERBOOM speakers for stereo sound output.
Inconvénients
- At high volume levels, the bass sounds muffled.
5
Sony SRS-XB12 – Best Waterproof Speaker for Bass
Another tiny but powerful speaker worth considering is the Sony SRS-XB12. The “XB” in XB12 stands for extra bass, and given the speaker’s small size, the bass on offer is truly impressive.
All about the bass…
Inside the Sony SRS-XB12 speaker, there is a 46mm speaker driver and a large passive radiator. The large passive radiator enhances all low-end frequencies and produces a bass response that you can feel.
If you enjoy bass-heavy music like rap, EDM, or R&B, then this speaker sounds great. However, for other genres of music, the bass sort of overwhelmed the middle and higher frequencies.
Easy to use…
No matter the type of music you are listening to, expect a playback time of up to 16 hours. Charging time is rather slow at just over four hours, though. To control the speaker, you will find your typical play/pause, pairing, volume, and power buttons on the side of it.
Integrated into the control panel is also a tiny microphone. If you hold down the play/pause button for three seconds, you can answer phone calls and use your phone’s voice assistant.
But there is a catch…
The small flap protecting the micro-USB charging port and 3.5mm jack does not secure very well. You will need to double-check that it is fully closed before you get the speaker wet, so you do not damage either port.
Also, since this speaker has Bluetooth 4.2, the connectivity range is maxed out at just over thirty feet. Although, you can connect an additional SRS-XB12, which will extend that range a bit.
Avantages
- Only weighs half a pound.
- You can control it through your voice assistant.
- Produces deep and loud bass.
Inconvénients
- The cover protecting the USB and 3.5mm port does not secure well.
6
JBL Go 2 – Best Budget Waterproof Speaker
The last waterproof IPX7 speaker we are looking at is not much bigger than the average smartphone is nowadays. We are talking about the Go 2 from JBL, which only measures 2.8-inches wide by 3.38-inches tall! One of the smallest and cheapest waterproof speakers you will find.
Surprising for its size…
This little blue speaker might not seem like much at first glance, but the amount of sound that comes out will leave you astounded! The Go 2’s single 40mm speaker drive produced crisp sounding middle and high frequencies even when we turned it all the way up.
Bass, on the other hand, is almost nonexistent, though. This is mostly because of the speaker’s small size and the fact that it does not have a passive radiator.
Get out and go…
Bluetooth 4.1 connectivity is on board, allowing you to connect and playback to the Go 2 from up to 30 feet away. Hidden inside the Go 2 is also a microphone, allowing you to control incoming calls. All the controls are on the top of the speaker and offer you standard play/pause, volume, and power functions.
Battery life…
JBL has included a micro-USB cable to charge the Go 2. You will most likely want to keep this cable and a compatible adapter or power bank nearby when using this speaker.
To keep the Go 2 so small, it seems JBL had to cut a few corners, one of them being battery size. Integrated into this tiny speaker is a small 730mAh battery. So, this battery only allows for a playback time of five hours, and to charge it, you will have to wait about two and a half hours!
Avantages
- Very inexpensive.
- You can fit it in your pocket.
Inconvénients
- Bass is not very noticeable.
- The battery only lasts for five hours.
Best Waterproof Speakers Buying Guide
With IP ratings, Bluetooth versions, and battery life differing from one speaker to another, you might be a little confused about what information is vital and which is not. The following buying guide will help you understand the different specifications that make one speaker different from one another.
Connectivity…
All the speakers we have tested have Bluetooth technology onboard for wireless connectivity. You will have noticed that not all speakers have the same version of Bluetooth, though.
Bluetooth 5.0 is the newest version and allows you to connect to devices from over 100 feet away. Bluetooth 4.1 or 4.2 is no slouch, however, and will still allow you to connect to devices from up to thirty plus feet away.
Depending on the speaker and the Bluetooth technology it has, you may also be able to connect the speaker to multiple devices simultaneously. It may even allow you to connect multiple speakers up to each other as well.
Something to keep in mind…
To get the most out of any Bluetooth connection, you will ideally want to have a device with the same version of Bluetooth as well. Even if you do not, all Bluetooth versions are backward compatible. So do not worry if your phone has Bluetooth 4.0 and your speaker has Bluetooth 5.0.
Durability…
Throughout this review, you will have noticed different us mention IPX7 and IP67 ratings. This stands for “Ingress Protection” and describes how well it protects the speaker’s internal components from different elements.
Both IPX7 and IP67 rated speakers can withstand being completely submerged in three feet of water for thirty minutes. What differs from IPX7 and IP67 is how dustproof the enclosure is.
What does it mean?
The “X” in IPX7 is used to describe how dust-resistant the device is. It is measured from 0 to 6, with 6 being a dustproof enclosure. That means an IPX7 rated speaker has not been tested against dust intrusion. No matter what, it will have some dust protection thanks to the material it is made from.
Some waterproof speakers are also drop tested to withstand falls from up to five feet. Speakers that are IP67 rated and have been drop tested are going to be the most durable. While this is reassuring, we recommend that you handle the speaker with care, no matter what it is rated or tested to withstand.
Portability…
Now that you understand just how durable your waterproof speaker can be, you should consider how portable it is. And battery life is the main determining factor when it comes to the portability of a waterproof speaker. Some speakers can playback music for five hours and others for up to 20 hours!
Battery life can vary, though, depending on volume, how you connect to the speaker, and whether it has speakerphone abilities. Speakers with longer battery life can sometimes take longer to charge when they run out of juice as well. Some speakers can be charged wirelessly, and some can even act as a power bank.
Other portability factors…
Another thing that affects the portability of the speaker is size and weight. Thankfully, all the speakers on this list will easily fit in your backpack. And they typically weigh less than two pounds. While some speakers may even fit in your pocket, sound quality and battery life are not usually as good compared to larger waterproof speakers.

What are the Best Waterproof Speakers?
If you have the cash to spend, then we definitely think the way to go is the…
Ultimate Ears Boom 3
It is the best sounding and the most durable speaker we came across. The large 50.8mm speaker drivers and passive radiators sound crystal clear, no matter what you are listening to. Music is also very immersive, thanks to the 360-degree sound profile of the Boom 3.
With a battery life of 15 hours, you will not run out of juice when at the beach or by the pool. Thanks to its IP67 rating against water and dust, you will not have to worry about damaging it no matter where you are or what the weather is!
So, until next time, may your music make you move.
