Le plus vieux téléphone connu a 153 ans (en 2024) — inventé par Antonio Meucci en 1871, cinq ans avant brevet Alexander Graham Bell.
Le « Telettrofono » de Meucci
- Date : 1871 (démontré), caveat déposé 1871, renouvelé 1872, 1873
- Nom : « Telettrofono » (plus tard « Talking Telegraph »)
- Principe : Induction électromagnétique — voix vibre diaphragme → varie champ magnétique → induit courant bobine distante → vibre diaphragme récepteur
- Installation : Sous-sol Meucci (Staten Island) → chambre 2e étage (femme Esther — polyarthrite rhumatoïde)
- Distance : ~30 m initialement ; testé jusqu'à 1,6 km plus tard
Pourquoi Bell obtient le crédit
- Brevet : Bell dépose US 174,465 14 fév 1876 (même jour caveat Elisha Gray). Meucci ne peut payer 250$ frais brevet — seulement 10$ renouvellements caveat.
- Commercialisation : Bell + investisseurs (Sanders, Hubbard) forment Bell Telephone Company ; Meucci manque capital.
- Démonstration : Demo Bell Exposition Centenaire 1876 (Philadelphie) captive attention mondiale.
- Juridique : 600+ procès ; Bell gagne priorité brevet. Meucci meurt 1889 ; affaire abandonnée.

L'appareil Meucci fut premier à transmettre parole intelligible électriquement. Bell breveta, commercialisa, monopolisça. Histoire crédite détenteur brevet — mais l'inventeur était Meucci.
