Services OS requis pour support carte PC (PCMCIA/CardBus)
Pour que périphériques PC Card (16-bit PCMCIA) ou CardBus (32-bit) fonctionnent, l'OS doit fournir deux couches services cœur :
1. Service Plug and Play (PnP)
- Détecte insertion/retrait carte (interruption matériel)
- Lit CIS (Card Information Structure) depuis mémoire attributs carte
- Identifie : fabricant, modèle, tension, vitesse, plages E/S, besoins IRQ
- Alloue ressources : ports E/S, fenêtres mémoire, IRQ, DMA
- Charge pilote fonction approprié (réseau, stockage, modem, etc.)
- Notifie applications arrivée périphérique
2. Services Socket (Gestionnaire socket)
- Gère socket physique (emplacement) matériel
- Contrôle commutation alimentation (Vcc, Vpp) — 5V/3,3V, tension programmation
- Gère signaux reset, ready/busy, détection carte, détection tension
- Fournit interface abstraite pour services carte manipuler socket
- Coordonne sockets multiples (pont/contrôleur)
- Implémente jeu registres ExCA (Exchangeable Card Architecture) (compat Intel 82365SL)
Couches support (Architecture logicielle PC Card)
- Matériel : Socket + contrôleur (pont PCI-PCMCIA, ex: TI PCI1410, Ricoh RL5C476)
- Socket Services : Abstraction matériel (cette couche)
- Card Services : Gestion ressources, liaison pilotes, notification clients
- Pilotes fonction : NDIS (réseau), SCSI/ATA (stockage), Série (modem), etc.
- Applications
Implémentations OS
- Windows 9x/2000/XP : Intégré (PCMCIA.sys, CardBus.sys)
- Linux : pcmciautils, pccardd, yenta_socket (modules noyau)
- macOS (héritage) : Support PCMCIA/CardBus abandonné post-2010
- DOS/Win3.1 : CardSoft, CardWizard (CS + SS TSRs)
Note moderne
PC Card / CardBus / ExpressCard sont obsolètes. Remplacés par USB, PCIe, M.2, Thunderbolt. Uniquement systèmes industriels/embarqués hérités.
