Chronologie Jeux Électroniques à Tube Cathodique
L'évolution des jeux électroniques basés CRT s'étend sur six décennies, des curiosités laboratoire à l'âge d'or arcades.
Jalons Fondateurs
| Année | Jalon | Signification |
| 1897 | J.J. Thomson découvre électron | Permet développement CRT |
| Années 1920–30 | Prototypes TV CRT (Zworykin, Farnsworth) | Technologie affichage mûrit |
| 1947 | Dispositif Récréatif Cathodique (Goldmann & Mann, Brevet US 2,455,992) | Premier jeu électronique breveté : faisceau CRT analogique contrôlé boutons pour toucher cibles superposées. Jamais commercialisé. |
| 1958 | Tennis for Two (Higinbotham, Brookhaven NL) | Premier jeu graphique interactif sur oscilloscope (ordinateur analogique). Démonstration publique. |
| 1962 | Spacewar! (MIT, PDP-1, CRT Type 30) | Premier jeu ordinateur numérique ; combat spatial 2 joueurs ; inspira industrie. |
Naissance Arcade Commerciale (1971–1974)
- 1971 : Computer Space (Bushnell/Dabney, Nutting Associates) — Premier jeu vidéo monnayeur. Armoire fibre de verre, logique TTL custom, CRT GE 15". Échec commercial (trop complexe).
- 1972 : Magnavox Odyssey (Baer) — Première console domestique. Graphiques superposition CRT, circuit analogique. 350 000 unités.
- 1972 : Pong (Atari, Alcorn) — Succès retentissant. Simple, addictif, rentable. 19 000 bornes. Lance industrie arcade.
Âge d'Or (1978–1983)
- 1978 : Space Invaders (Taito/Midway) — Microprocesseur (8080), CRT RGB, table meilleurs scores. Phénomène mondial.
- 1979 : Asteroids (Atari) — Affichage vectoriel (CRT amplificateurs déviation), esthétique distincte.
- 1980 : Pac-Man (Namco/Midway) — Labyrinthe poursuite, IP personnage, large public. Jeu arcade plus vendu (~400 000 bornes).
- 1981 : Donkey Kong (Nintendo) — Plateforme, narration, débuts Mario.
- 1981–82 : Galaga, Defender, Centipede, Ms. Pac-Man, Dig Dug, Q*bert, Joust, Robotron — Explosion genres.
Déclin & Transition (Fin 1980s–1990s)
- Consoles salon (NES, Sega Genesis, PlayStation) surpassent graphismes/commodité arcade.
- Jeu PC (VGA, Sound Blaster, accélérateurs 3D) offre profondeur/modding.
- Arcade pivote niche : combat (Street Fighter II, 1991), rythme (Dance Dance Revolution, 1998), simus conduite, redemption tickets.
- Production CRT s'arrête ~années 2000 (LCD/plasma/OLED dominent). Dernier gros arcade CRT : Sega Chihiro (2002), Namco System 256 (2005).
Héritage
Jeux arcade CRT ont défini grammaire jeu vidéo : interaction temps réel, compétition meilleurs scores, ergonomie borne, mode attract, modèle économique monnayeur. Renaissance rétro moderne (bornes bartop, MiSTer FPGA, shaders CRT) préserve esthétique.
